I have learned so much these past few months about building a house. I have learned that in order to build, you must have a solid foundation. The ground needs to be prepped with dirt and leveled so that way the building of the foundation can start. Who knew right?

When we started this process in mid April I knew it would be a process but had no idea the importance of each and every step!

Here is the first step we accomplished.

We had to raise the ground 6 feet and had tons of dirt brought in so that it was level.

Houses built on shifting sand, mucky soil, or other unstable earth will likely fail over a short period of time unless they are built on special foundations or pilings.

Foundation is so vital because when the storms come the house will stand. (Even if a tornado hits the concrete foundation remains).

This reminds me a lot of our faith and foundation in Christ. If we don’t have a solid foundation in which Christ is at the center then when the storms of life happen our world falls apart.

The book of Psalms is to provide poetry for the expression of praise, worship, and confession to God. The one below really spoke to me in regards to trusting God and my faith to be firm.

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭62:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

From there, they trenched and prepped it for the footing. The footing is a concrete carrier in the ground that the stem wall and  slab sits on. Because we had to bring in dirt and raise the land 6 feet we had to have piers in place to have a solid stable foundation for the footing, stemwall and slab.  These piers weee 6 feet deep and 2 feet wide.

Below is the stemwall being prepped on the footing that is under the dirt.

The cool part was when the plumbing was done they filled it with sand.

While the cement  was still wet we wrote our names and scripture in the cement. It was a special time.

Here are the 2 scriptures we wrote.

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭91:11-12‬‭

“But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭54:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It was amazing the day we saw the slab poured. It felt more real.

This has been a very spiritual process for me because I have asked myself. Where is your faith? Is your faith strong and solid? Have you built a firm foundation in which your faith lays on and it’s gotten me to thinking about how important it is to stay rooted in Christ.

I don’t always get it right. There are days where I don’t read my bible like I should and I have to be intentional and work hard.

Same goes for my marriage. If Josh and I have a shaky foundation then when trouble comes and the spiritual warfar begins we will fall but we have learned that when our foundation in Christ is strong there is nothing that can tear our marriage apart.

The book of Ecclesiastes provides a stark example of how relevant the Old Testament can be in today’s world. The title of the book comes from the Greek word for “preacher” or “teacher.”

It was written ten centuries before the birth of Christ by Solomon, son of King David.

“A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So, how is your faith? How strong is your foundation?

Ask God to give you the Eyes to see and the Ears to hear his voice and live out his word so when life happens and the storms come you have His word and your faith to see you through it.

I will try to post more often and share more of what I’m learning about myself, my husband and our marriage as we seek God and grow closer to him daily. ❤️
